I read in this book recently (“How to Walk Away”, it’s pretty good) about smashing plates (or any dishware, really) as a coping mechanism or just a way to vent pent up aggression. I also saw Meredith Grey do it during a recent binge-watch of the last season of Grey’s Anatomy. I think the idea has some credence. That way, you get to let it out in some sort of controlled environment without hurting anyone or yourself. I actually thought about it for a hot second when I was unloading the dishwasher this evening. So, I googled it. Turns out, there are legit places for just this purpose. Unfortunately, none of them are near where I live, so I’m out of luck there. However, I guess if I get desperate enough I could just stop by a thrift shop specifically for smashable dishware and do this on the patio and then sweep it up later. We’ll see how my anger meter does the next few days.
